Better ROI and IT Cost Reductions through Automation

In the current business environment, IT departments often find themselves as cost centers under scrutiny for corporate belt tightening. EMC Ionix Network Configuration Manager (formerly VoyenceControl) provides features that will assist in the effort to create IT efficiency.

expand/close  SLA Penalty Avoidance

According to Enterprise Management Associates, a leading industry analyst firm, between 60 and 80 percent of network outages and service-affecting network problems are caused by change. By implementing best practices in change and release management with Network Configuration Manager, you can significantly reduce those outages. Considering that a single outage can cost thousands of dollars per hour, this can be a significant savings.

expand/close  Trouble-Tickets Processing Costs

The cost associated with processing trouble tickets are affected by the same condition. Change to the network environment is extremely likely to cause outages or negatively Impact business services. Each trouble ticket issued can cost many hundreds of dollars per hour to resolve. In addition to reducing the number of tickets issued by controlling change, Network Configuration Manager can shorten the Mean Time to Repair (MTTR). Since most trouble tickets will be related to a change activity, integration of the change management system with the fault and performance monitoring systems can be extremely valuable. Network Configuration Manager is integrated to popular fault and performance monitoring and root cause analysis systems. These integrations allow the network operator to quickly view the complete change history, configuration, patch and hardware of a device that has been identified as causing the outage. The network operator is presented with the ability to roll back the offending change and quickly return the network to a known good state, resolving the problem quickly and efficiently.

expand/close  Network Inventory and Maintenance Contract Management

IT departments pay large sums of money each year on maintenance contracts based on the number of devices in their operational networks. Often the IT departments must choose between paying the invoice "as is" or committing many hours to reconciling the invoice against what actually resides on their network. With Network Configuration Manager, the IT staff can simply create a report with the appropriate filters to select vendor and model types quickly, and reconcile their maintenance contracts.

expand/close  Elimination of Pre-staging and Trucks Rolls in Service Deployments

Network Configuration Manager’s Zero-Touch Install eliminates the most costly components of turning up a service: pre-staging of equipment and truck rolls. With Network Configuration Manager, a device may be drop shipped directly to the installation site without concern for firmware, OS level or pre-configuration. At the remote site, the device only needs to be plugged in to power and the network, and configured for an IP address and subnet mask; Network Configuration Manager will do the rest. VoyenceControl NG confirms the device's identity, checks and upgrades the firmware and OS level if necessary, pushes the configuration, performs designated diagnostics, and reports on the results. If an OSS or BSS device is configured, Network Configuration Manager will send that system an event to complete service activation.
