IdleAire Technologies Joins Growing List of Voyence Customers

Innovator in trucking industry chooses VoyenceControl to manage accelerated network growth.

Richardson, TX, November 29, 2004 — Voyence™ Inc., the leading provider of network configuration management solutions, today announced that IdleAire Technologies, a privately held company making the long-haul trucking industry cleaner and safer, has licensed VoyenceControl to manage network configurations across its rapidly expanding network.

IdleAire, which will be adding thousands of network devices over the next few years, is using VoyenceControl to increase network availability and improve security. With VoyenceControl, IdleAire can validate network device configuration changes and prevent errors from being introduced during the change process. VoyenceControl’s auto-discovery functionality and tabular views containing critical device information also keep IdleAire informed of the “as-is” state of their infrastructure at all times. By using VoyenceControl to automate the entire change management process, IdleAire is able to adapt quickly to a constantly changing business environment.

“We’re growing fast, and so is our network,” said Jon Duren, IdleAire’s CTO. “We needed a solution that would make it easier and more efficient for us to keep up, especially when it comes to managing configurations across thousands of devices. We couldn’t find any other solution better than VoyenceControl”

IdleAire, based in Knoxville, Tennessee, has solved an old challenge in the transportation industry: the long and continuous idling of trucks’ diesel engines at truck stops, border crossings, ports, distribution facilities and fleet terminals while drivers sleep, eat and prepare for the next leg of their trip, and wait to load or unload. Before IdleAire, drivers kept their engines running to support air conditioning and heating systems. When multiplied by the hundreds of thousands of long-haul trucks operating across the county every day, this represents significant pollution problems as well as added fuel expense – a huge drag on trucking industry profits. Additionally, studies show drivers don’t sleep well when they’re subjected to the noisy idling of their engines, which causes safety concerns.

Now, at the growing number of truck stops equipped with IdleAire, drivers can shut off their engines and get individually-controlled, filtered heating and cooling from a highly efficient, external heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) unit housed above each truck parking space. Heat and air are delivered to the truck cab by a quiet, high-tech hose system that connects a service delivery console and return air supply to the overhead HVAC unit. But that’s just the beginning. The IdleAire system also delivers movies and Internet access, satellite television, telephone service and more. The console, which mounts conveniently in the passenger window of the cab using a $10 window adapter, comes with temperature controls, air supply/return, a credit card reader, a laptop-type computer with a 10.4-inch color touch screen display and 110-volt outlets.

“It’s great to have IdleAire aboard, and it’s great to see what they are doing for the trucking industry and the environment, not to mention the comfort and safety of drivers,” said Susan Nash, Voyence President and CEO.

Duren, IdleAire’s CTO, said increased efficiency was the top reason IdleAire selected Voyence. Compliance is another factor, Duren said, “but the bottom line is we’re real happy to be able to manage an extremely fast-growing network without having to staff too many engineers. That means we have more resources that can be directed toward growing our company.”
