Voyence provides relief from Denial
of Service attacks on Cisco devices running IOS
June 16, 2004 -- Today,
Cisco announced that Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) contains
vulnerabilities that cause Cisco devices running IOS to be
susceptible to Denial of Service attacks. Network devices
are continuously being compromised to set the stage for Denial
of Service attacks. This leaves no enterprise, managed service
provider, government agency or educational institution out
of harm’s way. Using traditional network change processes,
it will take from days to months of effort to deploy a fix
to all vulnerable network devices. By then, intruders may
have already attacked. VoyenceControl software thwarts intruders
by centralizing and automating the update of operating system
images to network devices—rapidly closing security holes.
Too often, organizations don’t know the current state
and configuration of all the devices that are part of their
network. In 2001, a Microsoft engineer improperly configured
a router, preventing all access to Microsoft’s online
services for over 22 hours. Why? There was no archive of the
configuration and the staff had to reconstruct the router
configuration from scratch. The VoyenceControl centralized
repository of network device information (including the IP
addresses, configuration settings, device operating system,
and passwords) would have allowed them to immediately restore
the previous configuration. This could have reduced the downtime
to minutes and avoided the damage done to both customer relationships
and company reputation.
